Minister for Lands & Natural Resources tours Anglogold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine.

The Minister for Lands & Natural Resources, Hon. Peter Amewu was in Obuasi earlier last Friday on a tour at the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine. This is the minister’s first diplomatic tour to the Obuasi mine  since his appointment into office.

Engaging in an interview with the minister on his Purpose of arrival, he stressed on the fact that the mine has suffered a decline in Production and thus this courtesy visit is akin to the resurgence of the mine’s operations, “a restoration tour hopeful to bring back life into the mine”, he posited.

His first tour happened at the Obuasi Mine’s deep decline, thus the underground mine. This underground mine happens to be one of the best rig Pits to be constructed for gold mining in Africa. It was officially inaugurated in June 2013. Rig Operations kicked off immediately after.

Second site toured was the mine’s main Processing plant where the mineral Ore is extracted and refined for Production. Several Shafts which serves as the passage way to the underground mine were disclosed.

Other SDUs run by the mine were not excluded.
The AGA hospital which reportedly has over 400 clinical departments makes it the second largest hospital in ASHANTI Region after Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital (KATH). They also visited the AGA School which is purposely systemized to admit over 90% of students from the community.

A press conference was finally held to climax the tour where the Minister shared his final remarks.
The M.D for AGA also shared his appreciation to the minister and his entourage, Chiefs present, The AGA management board and all Protocol observed.

The Minister who is also dignified as the Former Volta Regional chairman for NPP was joined by the Chief inspector of mines, Obiri Yeboah Twumasi, Chief Director:Min. Of Lands & Natural Resources, Prof. Bruce Banoeng Yakubo, and the Parliamentary-select committee chairman on Lands & Forestry, Hon. Benito Owusu Bioh.
