Edward Kwasi Akuoko Declares Bid for NPP Obuasi West Constituency Chairman

A politician, communicator, and entrepreneur, Edward Kwasi Akuoko has officially announced his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman position in Obuasi West.

The Chief Executive Officer of Muffin Group of Companies made his declaration during a press conference in Obuasi, highlighting his long-standing service and commitment to the party.

Outlining his strengths, Akuoko described himself as articulate, calm under pressure, and a strong mobilizer. He recounted his role in organizing over 2,000 youth to support Hon. Joseph Kwadwo Boampong during his parliamentary bid in 2008, adding that he also served as a youth secretary.

He emphasized values of humility, fairness, and respect, noting that “the party in Obuasi is suffering because some people think they were treated unfairly.” He pledged to promote justice and unity if elected.

Akuoko, 48, said he represents both the youth and the elderly and intends to bridge the gap between them by engaging experienced party members while mentoring young people. He acknowledged mentorship from leaders like Edward Ennin and Hon. Boampong as key influences in his political journey. He also highlighted his wide network and ability to lobby for opportunities that will benefit the party.

Background and Experience

Born in Obuasi Estate and raised in Gausu, Akuoko attended Queen Egyima in Obuasi and Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC). He holds a degree in Business Administration from University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), a Master’s degree in Peace, Security and Intelligence Management, and a diploma in Marketing from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He has an extensive record of public service, having served as Assembly Member for Gausu-Koffikrom for eight years, following in the footsteps of his father who held the same position for 12 years. He also served as Assembly Member for Mensakrom, Clerk of Council at Akrokeri, and PRO for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.

In media, he was the first correspondent for Multimedia Group Limited in Obuasi, ran The Servant newspaper, and worked as a news reader and presenter at Shaft FM.

Akuoko has been active in the NPP since 1995, rising through the ranks from Polling Station Secretary to Constituency Youth Organizer Secretary, Deputy Constituency Secretary, and later Constituency Secretary. He is currently a member of both the regional and national communication teams.

Vision and Strategy

Akuoko assured party members that his commitment to the NPP remains firm regardless of the election outcome. He emphasized that he is not vindictive and is ready to work with his opponents to build a stronger and more united party if elected.

He also pledged to strengthen grassroots engagement by visiting every polling station at least twice a year to interact with members, understand their concerns, and keep the party structure active at all levels.

As part of efforts to address divisions within the party, he announced plans to initiate a reconciliation project aimed at healing rifts and fostering unity among members.

Akuoko further noted that he will prioritize regular constituency meetings to improve communication, transparency, and participation, addressing what he described as a gap in current party operations.

Additionally, he intends to establish a welfare fund to support party members in times of need, ensuring that members feel valued and supported.

He concluded by calling on delegates to support his bid, promising inclusive leadership and a renewed sense of direction for the party in Obuasi West.
