Give Us Your Used Land Cruisers instead Of Aboboyaa, Obuasi East Best Farmer Pleads

The Obuasi East District best farmer, Mr Samuel Edmondson Appiah has called on the Assembly and its sponsors to award best farmers with their used but good land cruisers instead of the motorized tricycles since they can help them better when they are going to their farms. He said this after receiving his award as the district’s best farmer.

The ultimate winners for this year’s Best Farmers Award in Obuasi East and West each received AngloGold Ashanti sponsored Motorized Tricycles. Six other districts in the Mine’s catchment areas also benefited from the gesture. AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine donated the items which are worth GH122, 120 to eight Districts in its catchment areas.

During the Obuasi East Farmers Day Celebration, Mr. Edmondson Appiah said he was happy to receive the award as the districts best farmer and it indicated that the country appreciated the work of farmers. Mr. Appiah also pleaded with the Assembly and its sponsors to up their support by giving future award winners their used but in good shape land cruisers to make it easier with their ‘going and coming’ from their farms.

“…As farmers, we need vehicles that can take us to our farms so instead of the motorized tricycles, if they can give us their used but in good condition land cruisers, that will really help our work” he said.

Mr. Edmondson Appiah also added that the major challenge of farmers in the district is lack of ready market for their goods. He then suggested that the Assembly must have a secretariat where people can go and purchase produce delivered by farmers anytime of the year.

“I have 25 acres of orange plantation where the oranges are getting rotten as we speak. We learnt the Assembly wanted to build an orange factory to process oranges here. Considering that Obuasi is noted for orange production, such a factory will be welcomed by all orange farmers” he added.

For his prize, Mr. Edmundson walked away with a MOTORIZED TRICYCLE commonly known as Aboboyaa, 32 inches LED TV, GTP wax print (full), Wellington boots among others.

The 4th Obuasi East Farmers Day celebration took place at Domeabra in the Ashanti region.
