Godwin Asare Receives GHc10k from Fifty50 Club, GHc11k from Social Media Users and Aseda FM Listeners

Fifty50 Club in Obuasi donated GHc10,000 to support the heart surgery of Godwin Asare. But before that, social media users and listeners of Aseda FM who heard the announcement during their morning show program had contributed GHc11,000 to help with the surgery.

Two weeks ago, Aseda FM hosted the father of Godwin Asare, Edward Asare during their morning show. Edward Asare narrated the condition of his son and sought support. A post was also made on Facebook to seek support.

Godwin Asare is just 5 years old and lives with his father at Obuasi Anyinam. He suffered from a hole-in-heart condition called Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) which was detected when he was just 4 months old. After an open heart surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in September 2019 which costs the father US$6,000 (GHc34,000), he developed another condition called Complete Heart Block which makes his heart to beat too slow.
The hospital is demanding €3,750 Euros for an urgent surgery.
The father has already closed down his electronics shop and sold his two taxis since the complications surfaced. At a point in time, he was buying Ghc220 worth of drugs every month to keep his only son alive.
