Following Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s abysmal performance in the on-going Premier League, the management of the club has asked Coach David Duncan to step aside indefinitely.
His assistant, Michael Osei, takes over as stand-in coach until the final determination of Duncan’s fate.
The Public Relations Officer of the club, Kwaku Ahenkorah, told the Daily Graphic on Monday that the decision to ask the coach to set aside was the first in a series of measures being put in place to salvage the image of the former Premier League champions.
“The last straw that broke the camel’s back was last Sunday’s 0-1 loss to Aduana which pushed the club to the bottom of the table,” Ahenkorah said but refused to comment further since there could be legal ramifications from the decision.
Kotoko have only five points from a possible 18 points after six matches and occupy the bottom of the 16-club league table.
They have won one home match against Sekondi Hasaacas and have drawn two other matches to the chagrin of their vociferous fans.
Management sources told Daily Graphic, the decision against Coach Duncan which takes immediate effect was the first step of actualising his final dismissal in a short while.
But that decision has divided the front of management and the board against the backdrop that former coach, Didi Dramani’s outstanding bills following his shock dismissal have still not been settled.
Coach Duncan’s cell phone has been off since the announcement for him to step aside.
