MCE Hon. William Kofi Adzowu Breaks Ground for Health Centre, KG Block and JHS in Obuasi East

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has performed the sod-cutting ceremony for three major infrastructure projects aimed at improving healthcare and education in the municipality.

The projects include:

  • A modern Health Centre with Nurses’ Quarters at Domeabra
  • A Kindergarten (KG) block with ancillary facilities at Nyamesomyede
  • A Junior High School (JHS) classroom block with ancillary facilities at Asonkore

The initiatives are intended to close longstanding gaps in healthcare access and school infrastructure for residents of Domeabra, Nyamesomyede, Asonkore and neighbouring communities.

Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, Hon. Adzowu explained that the new JHS block at Asonkore forms part of a deliberate effort to phase out the shift system in schools across the municipality.

“Our goal is to ensure that no student loses instructional time because of insufficient classroom space. This new block will ease overcrowding and provide a better setting for teaching and learning,” he said.

He also stressed the value of the KG block at Nyamesomyede, noting that improving access to early childhood education is a key priority. Bringing schools closer to communities, he added, will help lay a solid foundation for every child’s academic journey.

The MCE called on residents to cooperate fully with contractors and the Assembly to ensure the projects are completed on schedule.

On the health front, the modern Health Centre and Nurses’ Quarters at Domeabra are expected to transform medical service delivery in the area. Hon. Adzowu said the facility will bring timely, quality and accessible healthcare closer to residents, cutting down the long distances many currently travel for basic treatment.

The Municipal Health Director, Mrs. Charity Afrifaa-Adjei, thanked the MCE for the investment and assured that qualified staff would be posted to the centre as soon as construction is finished. Sector leaders present also pledged their support to make sure the facility is put to effective use.

Representing the Education Directorate, Samuel Oppong described the JHS project as a significant step forward. While acknowledging progress in reducing the shift system, he noted that sustained collaboration between the Assembly, communities and education authorities will be needed to eliminate the practice entirely across Obuasi East.
