The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA), Honourable Faustilove Appiah-Kannin, has reiterated that her administration remains open to constructive criticism, particularly from the media.
According to the MCE, constructive feedback from the media serves as a vital tool in strengthening governance and improving service delivery. She noted that such criticisms keep the Assembly alert and responsive to the needs of residents.
Acknowledging the important role of the media, Hon. Faustilove stated that no single individual can monitor everything happening within the Municipality. “My eyes cannot see everything that is happening in the Municipality. When issues are brought to our attention, it helps us to address them promptly. The media is a strategic partner in our collective development, and their work supports us greatly,” she said.
The MCE made these remarks during a stakeholder meeting with the General Managers of the four radio stations in Obuasi. The meeting was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Municipal Assembly and the local media.
As part of efforts to deepen collaboration, Hon. Faustilove announced plans for various Departments of the Assembly to appear weekly on the radio stations to explain their mandates and update the public on their activities. She called for the support and cooperation of the media houses to formalize and effectively implement the initiative.
The MCE also used the occasion to commend the media for their contribution to the development of the Municipality and encouraged them to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties.
She further emphasized that her office and the Assembly remain open to the media for inquiries and clarification on issues of public concern. However, she cautioned that the administration would not tolerate misinformation, disinformation, propaganda, or blackmail.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the General Manager of Time FM, Mr. Albert Gyemfi, expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the engagement. He commended the leadership of Honourable Faustilove Appiah-Kannin and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, for initiating the meeting. Mr. Gyemfi described the planned weekly engagement schedule as a laudable initiative that would enable the radio stations to effectively plan and host representatives of the Assembly.
The meeting was attended by representatives of all four radio stations in the Municipality. On the side of the Assembly were the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh; the Finance Officer, Mr. Zackaria Yahaya; the Assistant Director of Central Administration, Mr. Henry Yeboah; and the Municipal Information Officer, Mr. Ernest Kofi Offen.
