The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has arrested a 45-year-old social media content creator for allegedly spreading false information that could incite fear and panic among the public.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Police Regional Headquarters in Kumasi on March 1, 2026, the suspect, Isaac Boafo, also known as “Duabo King”, was apprehended following intelligence gathered by the Police Intelligence Directorate (Ashanti Region).
The arrest stems from a viral video circulated on TikTok, in which Boafo claimed that four police officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo, Kumasi.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to creating and publishing the video. He confessed that his motive was solely to attract views, likes, and online engagement as a content creator. Boafo further acknowledged that he could not substantiate the serious allegations made against the officers.
The press release also notes that the suspect admitted to making unsubstantiated comments concerning the President of the Republic for the purpose of content creation, and he could not defend those statements either.
Boafo has been formally charged and is currently in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service used the opportunity to caution the public against publishing or circulating false information, especially on social media platforms. Such actions, the release warned, can cause unnecessary fear, panic, reputational damage, and other harms. Anyone found engaging in this conduct will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The statement was signed by Godwin Ahianyo, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Head of the Public Affairs Unit (Ashanti Region).
Authorities continue to urge citizens to verify information before sharing and to report suspicious or harmful content to the appropriate channels.
