Hours of downpour have once again exposed the inherent weakness in the management of Obuasi’s engineering architecture as many places were left flooded.
Some suburbs in the Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East District got flooded after Wednesday afternoon’s downpour, displacing a lot of people and destroying lots of properties.
The downpour, which lasted for about two hours, caused the Mensahkrom community to flood. The scene displaced many residents of Mensahkrom. Properties have been destroyed.
Similarly, Nyameso, Bidiem, Koffekrom, and Gausu extension were all not spared. Some houses in these communities were flooded with some people seeking shelter with relatives on higher grounds and storey buildings.
At Wawase Senet, pockets of the floodwaters took over the streets, including the main road that leads to the District Assembly Office.
Mr. Bismark Akowuah, the Obuasi NADMO Director, together with some of his officials and some Assembly members cautioned residents to refrain from dumping refuse in gutters and also to distill the gutters as well.
