The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has approved its 2026 Annual Budget, with a projected GH₵23 million expected to be raised as Internally Generated Funds (IGF) for the coming fiscal year.
The approval was given during the Assembly’s sittings held on Wednesday and Thursday, October 29 and 30, 2025, at the Assembly Hall in Obuasi. Of the total projected IGF, GH₵17 million is expected to come from property rate collections, reflecting the Assembly’s renewed focus on strengthening revenue mobilisation to finance local development projects.
Delivering the budget statement on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Municipal Budget Officer, Madam Edna Vivian Arkoh, presented both the Annual Fee-Fixing Resolution and the Permits Schedule for the Municipality, which were subsequently approved by members.

Before adoption, Assembly Members engaged in an extensive debate on the budget, during which several clarifications were provided by management. The deliberations, according to observers, were constructive and reflected a shared commitment to transparency, accountability, and fiscal discipline.
In addition to the budget, the Assembly also approved its Client Service Charter and adopted the Medium-Term Development Plan (2026–2029) for implementation beginning next year. Presenting the highlights of the plan, the Municipal Development Planning Officer, Mr. Prince Agyemang (Esq.), outlined key strategic goals aimed at accelerating socio-economic development and improving infrastructure across the municipality.
The sittings also saw the formal introduction of the new Municipal Coordinating Director and Secretary to the Assembly, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmortheh, to members.
Proceedings were chaired by the Presiding Member, Hon. James Adabour, and ably assisted by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, who expressed appreciation to members for their cooperation and constructive engagement throughout the deliberations.
Next Steps
Implementation of the 2026 budget is expected to begin in January 2026, with a focus on improving road infrastructure, enhancing sanitation and waste management, expanding access to potable water, and digitizing revenue collection systems to boost efficiency and accountability within the municipality.
