Living thousands of miles away from family and friends in a system designed to drain you can be an invisible struggle.
As an immigrant, you’re often restricted by visa conditions — limited access to childcare, universal credit, or even social housing. You pay for everything out of pocket, yet receive very little support in return.
To make matters worse, immigrants are too often portrayed as a burden, with constant anti-immigration headlines, political propaganda, and demonstrations that unfairly paint hardworking people in a negative light.
And then comes the “Black Tax” — the unspoken expectation to financially support not just your immediate family, but friends and even distant acquaintances back home. Many immigrants struggle to say no, sacrificing their own comfort and stability to uphold a perceived image of success.
My dear immigrant friend, stop fooling yourself — you are not Jesus. You cannot save everyone.
But there is a way out.
Build a solid foundation back home while you work abroad.
Invest in projects, property, and financial security that you can return to within 5–7 years. Set clear goals, work hard, and stay focused, no matter the setbacks.
One day, you’ll look back and realise every sacrifice was part of your journey — not to please others, but to build the life you truly deserve.
