Sir, I took time to listen to your morning show dubbed ‘Fontomfrom’ on O 107.7 FM in Obuasi Tutuka this morning. Actually, my attention was drawn there when I overhead you from someone’s radio as I was passing by. It was just around 7:30AM and you were discussing Dr. Bawumia’s allegations that there’s an official bungalow under construction for Ghana’s Vice Presidents which is costing the nation to a tune of $13.9 million. Quickly, I took my mobile phone and tuned in to listen, apparently, the discussions continued.
What I find rather intriguing is the fact that, professionally, I thought you would have sought to hear from those that matters. When I talk about those that matters, I mean to say those that are involved in one way or the other. But I never heard you speak to any of such persons, be it a member from the then governments communication team, estate develops and even the very construction company who are said to have been given such a ‘dubious’ contract as Dr. Bawumia sought to paint such a picture.
It was interesting however, that you and your co panelists spoke at length on that very issue painting a picture as though it isn’t an allegation but a real proof of corruption. I was somehow amazed when Wayoosi was called to confirm their appeal to be nominated for deputy ministerial position and same wasn’t done to confirm or deny this wild allegation on the immediate past government.
Undoubtedly, I’m not into journalism but I know one of the ethics of journalism is to give your listeners the real story as it is, it would have been objective of you if you had phoned in a member of the previous government to which this wild allegation is being made against to put it’s side of the story out as we’re all aware of the fact that ‘to every story there are two sides’.
I write this as a citizen and not a spectator as I would loved to see objective journalism that paints a more clearer picture than seeming to take stance with political lenses when it comes to matters of national interest.
Just in case you never knew, peacefmonline.com by their own investigation reveals that Dr. Bawumia lied about this and I quote… ‘Following Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s accusation that the NDC government was to spend US$13million on the former’s edifice, it has emerged that no such monies were approved by the erstwhile Mahama government. Close sources to the former Vice President Amissah Arthur’s office and subsequently confirmed by former senior officers at National Security have indicated that President Mahama’s government only approved a little over US$5million for the project. The whopping amount of $13million being thrown about remains a proposal from the Architectural Engineering Services Limited (AESL) and reliable information suggests the previous government questioned the justification for the price variation on account of which no such payments were effected.’
I would like to reiterate that, the people of Obuasi, Adansiman and it’s surroundings deserves insightful and good journalism which seeks to bring matters to the fore and bring out facts based on proper investigations and findings.
To end, I wish you could help me reach out to our current Vice President, Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia and let him know that he’s now a Vice President and not a running mate and as such he should let us see that in him.
Thank You and do enjoy your midweek. Cheers
?
