The national under -17 soccer team, Ghana Black Starlets left the country on Friday to begin preparations for the 12th edition of the African under 17 championships scheduled to take place in Gabon from the 14th of May.
Madagascar were initially billed to host the tournament between 2-16 April but CAF’s inspection team grew dissatisfied with their preparations thus electing Gabon as the new hosts. Only players born from the Ist of January 2000 and later are eligible to participate in the tournament.
Ghana have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Gabon, Guinea and Cameroon. Group B features defending champions Mali, Tanzania, Angola and Niger. The top two sides from each group qualify for the semi-finals with an automatic 2017 under -17 world cup place in India also guaranteed.
Led by Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin, Ghana will be hoping to add to their two African under 17 titles won in 1995 and 1999.
