Ghana Armed Forces and Police Conduct Joint Operations in Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous, intelligence-led joint operations in the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions to arrest suspects involved in recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), as well as some Police and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials.

According to a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations at GAF, the swoops—carried out at dawn on Wednesday, November 12, 2025—targeted locations including Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region, Ehi in the Volta Region, and Hwedie, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.

The operation seeks to apprehend individuals linked to the recent coordinated attacks and to reinforce security for personnel involved in anti-galamsey operations. The Armed Forces and Police warned that anyone or group attempting to obstruct their lawful duties will face the full force of the law.

“Adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of residents,” the statement assured.

“We encourage the public to remain calm and go about their normal activities without fear or panic.”

The security agencies also commended civil society organizations, the media, and the general public for their strong condemnation of the attacks and appealed for continued cooperation in the fight against illegal mining.
