As part of its corporate social responsibility, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine has donated 2,000 doses of anti-rabies vaccines to the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to help protect both animals and residents from the deadly disease.
The initiative aims to vaccinate cats and dogs across the Municipality at no cost to residents, in line with ongoing efforts to make Obuasi a rabies-free community. The exercise is being undertaken as a proactive public health measure to prevent any potential outbreak of the disease.

Speaking on behalf of the company during a brief handover ceremony at the AGA Health Foundation, the Executive Director, Dr. Kwadwo Anim, recounted the process leading to the donation. He explained that the request from the Municipal Veterinary Department was reviewed and approved by AGA management as part of the company’s commitment to community health.

“Health and safety are core to our values. Supporting this vaccination campaign aligns with our goal of building a healthier and safer Obuasi,”

In addition to the vaccines, AGA will also provide medical essentials required for the exercise to ensure smooth implementation.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Assembly, Municipal Veterinary Officer Mr. Agyemang Boateng expressed his appreciation to AGA, assuring that the vaccines would be used for their intended purpose. He announced a Municipality-wide outreach programme to reach pet owners in their communities.

“This donation is timely. With the Assembly’s logistical support, we’ll ensure every targeted animal is vaccinated,”
