350 GROC Donates Solar powered bulbs and lamps to five communities in the C/R

350 Ghana Reducing Our Carbon (350 GROC), a non governmental organisation with the purpose of promoting renewable energy in Ghana which could lead to the reduction of carbon emissions has donated various solar powered gadgets to five communities in the Central region including Ekumfi Aboano, Immuna, Kokodo, Srafa and Etsibuadu with a grand event to mark the occasion.

Mrs Portia Adu Mensah, the Coordinator for 350 GROC, in her opening address, entreated the communities to make use of the natural resources God has freely given them, especially the sun.

“You pay for electricity which is not even consistent. God has given us the sun which comes out everyday, lets make good use of it”, she said.

“With the solar power bank, you can go to your farms without fear of your phone going off due to low battery”, she added.

Miss Hanny, a solar energy expert with 350 GROC, took the communities through the mode of operations of the solar gadgets before some were distributed to leaders of the various communities, women groups and a school in Ekumfi Aboano.

The Chief of Ekumfi Aboano, whose community the event was hosted on behalf of the other chiefs present, expressed their delight at the kind gesture.

Government of Ghana wants to construct a coal fired plant  at the shores of the Aboano sea to help solve the energy crises in the country but 350-GROC believes that is a bad move since coal has many negative implications on the health of people and the environment.

“The alternative to our energy crises is renewable energy , not the coal fired plant the Volta River Authority wants to build here”, Mrs. Portia Adu Mensah said.
