Fifty (50) Community Policing Assistants were on Tuesday, 17th July, 2018 deployed to assist the police in their fight against crime in Obuasi.
The Personnel who have undergone three (3) weeks of rigorous training at both Kumasi Police Training and Koforidua Police Training schools were recruited by the joint efforts of the Youth Employment Agency (Y.E.A) and the Ghana Police Service.
Addressing the Personnel who were drawn from the various electoral areas in the Municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi; Honourable Elijah Adansi Bonnah congratulated the recruits for successfully passing out and advised them not to allocate unto themselves the powers of the police but see themselves as Police Assistants.
As Police Assistants, the MCE advised them to be disciplined and obey the orders of their superiors in the course of discharging their functions.
The Municipal Commander of MTTD, ASP Joseph Okrah called for patience on the part of the recruits as they discharge their duties. “Personnel would perform traffic management roles, processing and patrol duties” so there is the need to be disciplined and be punctual, he added.
Various Speakers including the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Justice Amoah and an Officer of the Obuasi YEA office Mr. Parker Richard advised personnel to use the appropriate platform to address their grievances and not to resort to the media. They both called on the personnel to be disciplined and protect the image of the Youth Employment Agency and the Ghana Police Service.
