Asante Kotoko SC has won a record 25th Ghana Premier League title after a 1 – 1 draw with AshantiGold SC in Obuasi on Thursday.
A second-half header from defender Maxwell Agyemang cancelled out Yaw Annor’s early strike in the 12th minute, ensuring Kotoko earned a point to clinch the title for the first time since 2014.
The Porcupine Warriors heading into the outstanding game against their rivals needed just one point after Hearts of Oak failed to beat Karela United on Monday.
Dr. Prosper Narteh’s side has amassed 60 points from 17 wins and 9 draws in 31 matches. Kotoko won seven games and recorded just two losses away from home and this is currently the best record in the league this season.
The triumph sees Kotoko win their 25th league title while also grabbing their first since 2013/2014 campaign, gaining the right to compete in next season’s CAF Champions League qualifiers with the hope of making the group stages for the first time since 2006.
