Over 1000 students in selected schools in the Obuasi East constituency as well as their teachers will now heave a sigh of relief. This was after the Member of Parliament Honorable Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom donated 600 sets of furniture to both teachers and students in the constituency.

The Member of Parliament known for his interest and support to educational improvement in the constituency donated 50 desks for KG pupils, 400 dual desks for primary schools, 100 momo desks for JHS students and 50 teachers tables and chairs.

The gesture according to Dr. Boakye Yiadom was to enhance teaching and learning in the constituency stressing that the only way the country can develop was to invest more in education.

” What I have been doing in education here aligns with the vision of the President His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to make education accessible for all through the implementation of the free senior high school”, he said.

The Mp who is also seeking a re-election in the December 7 election said he has built a lot of classroom blocks, supplied computers and textbooks, constructed boreholes and implemented a lot of programs and interventions in the area of education in the district.

He said schools in the onstituency have witnessed tremendous improvement in student enrollment due to the impact tod the interventions he has rolled out  throughout his tenure of office and promised to do more when he is re-elected into office.

Meanwhile the Obuasi East district director of education Kwabena Owusu Nketiah has lauded the Member of Parliament for his unwavering support towards education stressing that schools in the constituency do not lack furniture thanks to the support of the Member of Parliament and the district Assembly.

He said despite the efforts of the MP and the DCE for the area, there are still more to be done especially in the area of classroom infrastructure. He said the congestion in some schools do not bode well for effective teaching and learning.

” What I have realized in the district is that most of the parents are withdrawing their wards from private schools to public schools accounting for a surge in enrollment in these schools. This has resulted in overcrowding. This is our headache as a directorate”, the district education director added.

The furniture which cost in excess of Gh100,000 was sourced from the Ghana Education Trust ( GET) Fund.
