Over the years, there has been back and forth on the way the company does recruitment as residents of the community think the Company has not been fair to them with regards to recruitment.
Residents once again displayed their anger by visiting one of the entrances to the mine to demonstrate against their unfair treatment.
Their agitations were all about the company not employing them and also not giving them the chance to do their own small-scale mining in the abandoned AngloGold Ashanti concessions.
Speaking to Obarima Kwadwo Gyamfi on Ghana Nti, Adwoa Tagor, one of the convenors made it clear that, they don’t want the leaders of the community to meet with AngloGold Ashanti. They want the Mine to involve the whole community as their leaders have failed them.
‘‘It wasn’t only the youth who took part in the demonstration. It was the whole Sanso Community. The Leaders of our community have disappointed us. We don’t want AGA to involve them alone. That is why the whole community was involved,’’ she said.
‘‘For some time now, the leaders of this community meet the Company’s leadership and nothing comes out from their meetings. We always go back to zero.’’
‘‘Just as they go round informing the community about their Malaria Program, they should do same when it comes to engaging the community on mining issues,’’ Adwoa Tagor added.
