The dusty stretch of road at Kunka, off the Nine Miles road in Obuasi, has become more than just an inconvenience—it’s a daily hazard. For the people who live and work along this road, life is a constant struggle.
Dust clouds fill the air, making it almost impossible to breathe cleanly, and businesses are suffering as the road repels growth instead of fostering it.
In front of Nana Wiredu School, the consequences of neglect became heartbreakingly clear this morning. Around 9:40 am, a motorbiker fell victim to the crude speed ramp that residents had desperately constructed just last night to slow down reckless speeding. The accident was nothing short of an eyesore, a grim reminder of the dangers this road poses to everyone who uses it.
This isn’t just about dust or potholes; it’s about lives and livelihoods. Workers on this stretch eat and drink dust every day just to earn a living. Businesses avoid investing here, leaving residents without essential amenities like pharmacies. Even the presence of a whole DVLA office on this road has done little to spark improvement.
The people of Kunka are pleading for action. They cannot continue to live in fear of accidents and deteriorating health. They cannot keep watching jobs disappear because no one wants to establish anything meaningful along this road.
To the leaders of Obuasi, this is a cry for help. The community needs your intervention now, not later. Let us not wait for more lives to be lost or more businesses to collapse before something is done. Kunka deserves better. Obuasi deserves better.
