Why Hon John Alexander Kobina Ackon is the man for Obuasi West Constituency.

“One United Obuasi”-Hon John Alexander Kobina Ackon.

I am a young lady who loves to do politics but in a more civilized manner with much interest on policies and the works of the aspirants.

I recently fell in love with the party politics in Obuasi and the gentleman who won my heart aside other candidates is the Hon Ashanti Regional Minister; not for anything but the projects he implemented as an MCE and Deputy Minister for two Social centred ministries and was honoured by the President with his appointment as the substantive Ashanti Regional Minister.

2008 Elections

Mr. John Alexander Kobina Ackon resigned officially from AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine to contest for the then Obuasi Constituency parliamentary seat with the incumbent, Mr. Edward Michael Ennin who was on the ticket of the NPP.

Mr. Ackon, in his first attempt pulled 26,855 votes, being the highest votes ever an NDC Candidate had since 2000 and 2004.

Dr. Yaw Nsiah Peprah who contested for the NDC in 2000 pulled 18,011 votes representing 25.20%, whiles Mr. Justice Dasah who stood for the NDC in 2004 brought the party down to the grounds with just 4,426 representing 5.9%

Mr. Justice Dasah gave Honourable Ackon a great job to win back all the hearts of original NDC voters, floating voters and other supporters in the other parties who didn’t vote for the NDC in 2004.

He left no stone unturned and for the first time had 26, 855 representing 35.63%.

Remember, he wasn’t a public office holder but was able to win the hearts of electorates both in the NDC and outside. This tells how the man of the moment, is close to the people on the grounds than any of the candidates he’s contesting.

EDUCATION

As the Municipal Chief Executive for four better years, he made sure Education in the Obuasi Municipality was given the necessary attention and logistics to keep it running.

Christ the King Catholic Senior High School in Akaporiso, one of the best Senior High Schools in Obuasi that trained astute personalities like Mr. Kojo Ellimah, Mr. Michael Nti, Madam Mary Kessey Boateng and other prominent people in and around Obuasi lacked school buildings, Assembly hall and Dormitories.

Under Mr. John Ackon’s leadership as the MCE, CKC had a brand new EISHER bus, 600 bed girls dormitory, 3 storey 18 unit classroom block with offices and washrooms and a six unit classroom block.

These interventions have really made CKCSHS a real learning center in the Ashanti Region. I know the Old Students Association will attest to this fact.

In 2011, he donated 500 desks to the school to help stock some of the new classrooms and old ones.

The Obuasi Senior High School, his alma mater saw tremendous infrastructure development and logistical difference under his leadership.

He’s the only Municipal Chief who had Senior High Education at heart and made sure they are really resourced and fortunately it reflected in the WASSCE performance too.

The St .Thomas Roman Catholic Basic school we all know was in a very bad and dangerous shape but thanks to the Hon Minister, the school now enjoys a storey building.

Let’s ponder on this for the mean time with a policy analysis eye.

I humbly call on all of you reading to compare the incumbent MPs four year term with the Honourable Regional Minister’s days as the Municipal Chief Executive and decide with your ‘kokromoti’.

Please don’t tell me MPs don’t do development, they are partners in development and so are given Common Fund every quarter in a year for development.

Vote Ackon…Vote for Obuasi’s Future
