AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine Launches 10-Year Socio-Economic Plan

AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has launched a 10-year socio-economic plan after the end of their three years Social Management Plan last December.

The launch comes 6 months after the SMP which sought to diversify the Obuasi economy came to an end. The 10-year socio-economic development plan will contribute to creating a resilient and socio-economically self-sustaining community.

The Plan will help to diversify and sustain the Obuasi economy, improve social development and promote cross-section partnerships.

Key areas targeted by the 10-year socio-economic development Plan include health, education, skills development, water and sanitation. The rest are entrepreneurship, partnerships, community infrastructure and industrialization.

The launch was attended by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, South African High Commissioner, HE Grace Jeanet Mason and traditional leaders including the Adansihene, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II. Top management of the Mine including the Managing Director, Eric Asubonteng and Richard Jordinson, Senior Vice President Ghana and Tanzania Business Unit of AngloGold Ashanti were in attendance.
