8 Trainees Graduate as 10 More are Admitted into AngloGold Ashanti’s Graduate Trainee Program

Eight trainees graduated from AngloGold Ashanti’s graduate trainee program at an event organized at the Cofkans Hotel in Obuasi. The trainees consisted of five females and three males. The Graduate Trainee Programme is a one-year development framework where each trainee is equipped with future career prospects. The 8 trainees joined the program in August 2019.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Eric Asubonteng, the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine said he was proud of the growth and achievements of the trainees who were passing out.


“We are again confident that the contribution that these young professionals would make to our Obuasi Mine, the Mining Industry, as well as Ghana, will be positively impactful, having acquired the right technical skills and work ethics” he said.


“I believe the opportunity to expand your network, learn from professionals, and gain work experience is something you will take with you wherever you go” Dr. Asubonteng added.


To ensure a smooth transition and transfer of knowledge and skills, each graduate trainee was assigned a mentor, who facilitated the learning process through practical hands-on exposure with guidance from the training and development team.

Mr Sulemanu Koney, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, commended the leadership of Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi, for taking progressive decision to reinstate and invest in the graduate trainee programme.

He said it was heartwarming that progressively, many businesses in the extractive industries were using such avenues to attract high calibre and ambitious young professionals.

Miss Nancy Appiah won the Overall Best Graduate Trainee Award and on behalf of the trainees who were passing out, expressed their appreciation to the Mine for re-introducing the program.

Ten other trainees consisting of 8 females and 2 males will also pass through the training till August 2021.

The occasion was also attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology, UmaT, Professor J.S.Y. Kuma.
