AngloGold Ashanti Initiates “Examination Improvement project”, Donates 4000 Books to 9 Schools in 6 Districts

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana (AGAG), Obuasi Mine, has donated four thousand (4000) books at the cost of Ninety Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh¢90,000) to nine (9) Government Assisted Senior High Schools in its operational areas. The schools were selected from the Obuasi Municipal, Obuasi East, Amansie central, Adansi North, Akrofuom and Adansi South districts.

According to Nana Ampofo-Bekoe, the Sustainability Manager for AngloGold Ashanti, they made the donation as part of the their effort to nurture and support a culture of learning in Adansi and Amansie schools.

 

“We want to give learners a helping hand to learn and pass their SSCE examinations and gain access to tertiary institutions of their choice”, he added.

Christ The King Senior High School, Obuasi Secondary Technical School, Akrofuom Senior High School, Asare Bediako Senior High School and Dompoase Senior High School all benefited from the project. The rest were Jacobu Senior High School, T. I Ahmadiyah Senior High School, Bodwesango Senior High School and New Edubiase Senior High School.

The books are intended to assist the third year students of the schools to successful write and pass their exams.  Nana Ampofo Bekoe indicated that though there are many final year students in the various schools which benefited from the donations, they hope to ensure that over 90% of the final year students would have access to the books at any point in time.

 

Obuasi Secondary Technical School received one thousand (1000) books whiles New Edubiase senior high school got 600 books. Bodwesango senior high school, T.I. Amass and Akrofuom senior high school got 400, 350 and 190 books respectively. Christ the King senior high school and Dompoase senior high school each got 360 books.

 

Anglogold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, has carried out various initiatives to help improve education in their operational areas. For two consecutives years, AngloGold Ashanti has organised a quiz competition for schools in Obuasi and spent over sixty thousand Ghana cedis (GHc60,000) within the period.
