AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable community development through its Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship (A2E) Programme, a flagship initiative designed to equip young people in its host communities with employable and entrepreneurial skills that support sustainable livelihoods.
As part of the programme, 22 young women from the Sanso community successfully completed a one-year apprenticeship programme aimed at strengthening their technical expertise and entrepreneurial capabilities.
The beneficiaries, who specialized in hairdressing and dressmaking, underwent intensive hands-on training delivered by experienced master craft persons, equipping them with the practical skills and knowledge required to establish and manage sustainable businesses.
To ensure the delivery of high-quality vocational training, AngloGold Ashanti also invested in strengthening the capacity of the master craft persons by providing them with training and essential tools to enhance their effectiveness as trainers and mentors throughout the apprenticeship period.
At a graduation ceremony held in Obuasi, AngloGold Ashanti presented the graduates with trade-specific start-up kits to support their transition into entrepreneurship. The kits included industrial sewing machines, salon chairs, mirrors, hair dryers, and other essential equipment required to establish and operate their businesses.
The beneficiaries were also awarded National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) certificates, validating their technical competencies and positioning them to pursue sustainable careers in their chosen trades.
