Obuasi JHS Complex has emerged winners at this years’ Grand Finale of the Obuasi Annual Basic School Quiz Competition. The school has won the previous 4 editions of the competition since its inception in 2016.
AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine in collaboration with Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East Directorates of Education organized this years’ edition of the Obuasi Annual Basic Quiz Competition.
As part of AGA Obuasi Mine’s Education Improvement Project in the three-year Social Management Plan, the quiz competition is strategically organised annually to address capacity building in schools and to enlighten all stakeholders on the importance of education and appreciate the efforts of brilliant and hardworking students.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Manager Sustainability revealed that the Mine has spent GHc200,000 in this years edition with the overall winners taking home among other things, a gold trophy and a cash prize of GHc5,000.

Forty-two Junior High Schools from both Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East District participated in the quiz competition and each school was represented by three students. Complex JHS and Kwabenakwa/Domeabra JHS emerged the finalists from Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East respectively.

Complex JHS took home a gold trophy with gold medals and Kwabenakwa/Domeabra went home with silver medals. Both schools received computers, books, school bags and dictionaries.
