Coronavirus: AngloGold Ashanti Donates Hand Sanitizers to Stakeholders

AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, has distributed hand sanitizers to it’s stakeholders in Obuasi to help in the fight against COVID-19. The sanitizers which were produced by Chemists in the Mine have been approved by the Food and Drugs Authority.

With hand sanitizers becoming costly and scarce in the market, the Mine decided to start its own production facility at their Enterprise Development Center through the Community Trust Fund in order to meet the demands of its workers and also support communities they work in.

On Wednesday, 6th May, 2020, 760 hand sanitizers were distributed to eight groups in the Obuasi East district and Obuasi Municipal Assembly including the Police, Prison service, Media, health facilities and the two Assemblies. The Mine has decided to donate it’s first 1000 hand sanitizers produced to its stakeholders.

Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Sustainability Manager, AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, said the Mine keeps thinking of new ways to make the environment safe so the 500ml bottle containing the hand sanitizers would be taken back after use so that they won’t cause any harm to the environment. The bottles could be recycled or reused.
