Suspected Robber Lynched

A suspected robber has been lynched at New Estate, a surburb of Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, who is believed to be in his 30s suffered the mob attack after allegedly robbing someone.
Assembly member of the area, Derrick Arthur, told Chukwu Joseph that he heard this terrible incident around 4:30am on the morning of Monday, 27th April,2020.
He said he realised that the yet-to-be identified man had been lynched by a mob who alleged he was a thief.
Nana Kamkam Boadu, Odikro of the New Estate area accused the deceased of being part of a group of unscrupulous guys who rob unsuspecting passersby of their belongings on the Railway line in the area.
He lamented that there had been an upsurge in the number of robbery cases lately hence he is not surprised the residents decided to take an action against the suspected robber.

Chief Inspector Amon Kotei, station officer at Obuasi Central Police Station appealed to residents to stop lynching suspected robbers.

He said the Service wants the suspects be brought to them for the appropriate action to be taken rather than lynching.

The body has been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital Morgue, while, the Police service has opened an investigation into the case.
