The district chief executive for Sekyere South of Ashanti region, Hon.Catherine Reckling has charged assembly members of the respective electoral area under the district to be ambassadors and crusaders for change as government “planting for food and jobs” initiative seeks to bring an economic venture to make a meaningful livelihood of Ghanaians.
According to the DCE, the assembly has taken delivery of 3000 bags of fertilizers, 765 mini bags of Obaatanpa maize seedlings, 17 bags of Agra rice seed and 26 sachets of tomatoes seedlings for the distribution to farmers and if the honorable members are fully involved, the program will be successfully achieved.
‘’I urge honorable members to encourage the farmers, especially the youth in their respective areas to take advantage of this economic venture to make meaningful livelihood’’
Giving her sessional address at the first ordinary meeting of the third session of the seventh assembly at Agona, the district capital of Sekyere South, Hon.Cathrine Reckling said, apart from the planting for food and jobs program, a thirteen member committee had been constituted and inaugurated to supervise the government policy of one district one factory and one million dollars one constituency program to open an employment opportunities to the teeming youth who are jobless.
Consequently,the DCE said, the committee which was formed has proposed the following projects for considerations which include fertilizer factory, cassava processing, soya bean processing, fruit processing, assembling of solar energy panels and rice milling factory.
Hon.Catherine Reckling when touching the environment and sanitation, she said, waste management remains a major headache of MMDAs and that sanitation has become one of the essential services that need urgent attention within the district and the country at large to obviate the outbreak of any epidemic bound to come.
‘’I wish to state that I have engage the district coordinator of Zoom lion Ghana limited to strengthen supervision and monitoring off staff to ensure they work to satisfy the fight of unhealthy environment’’.
On decongestion, the DCE revealed that a committee, comprising of the police, works and environmental health directorate has been put up to carry out decongestion exercise at the central business unit of Agona. Meanwhile, pending the relocation of the lorry park to the old assembly premises after the completion of the new office block, the taxi service operators who would be affected by the decongestion exercise will be provided a temporal bus stop space near the Agona SDA training college.
Hon.Catherine Reckling while speaking on some visions her outfit will look at, she said since her assumption of office there has been series of managerial meetings to retool the development agenda of the assembly to provide strategic policy direction in consistence with the president’s vision and national development paradigm.
She said, indeed the task is enormous and would require a comprehensive review of projects and programmes under implementation in tandem with the resources available.
‘We will focus more on the strengthen of substructures to deepen decentralization, revenue mobilization, provision of office and residential accommodation, water and sanitation, provision of social infrastructure, job creation and employment and rural industrialization’.
Hon.Catherine Reckling therefore expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the honor done to her to serve under her government as the district chief executive for Sekyere South and that also, the able assembly members who fully gave her an overwhelming endorsement during her confirmation.
