Galamsey task force chairman blames EPA for Galamsey menace.

The chairman of the mining reclamation taskforce of the Amansie Central District Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Simon Kojo Antwi has asked the EPA not to comment on the galamsey menace in the nation because they have been part and parcel of the problem since they never cracked the whip on defaulters.

The agitated chairman described EPA as good for nothing agency in Ghana. The Minister of Lands and Natural Reesources should check the EPA to undertake their duty by protecting the environment and not that their selfish interest of signing licences to small scale operators without checking their activities.

Within the Amansie Central District alone, over 26 innocent people died by drowning into galamsey pits, this triggered the district to form a taskforce to ensure the reclamation of the pit of which he was the chairman, he stressed.

He descended on the EPA and the Minerals Commission for issuing licences to people to operate without even they themselves knowing the areas, including their reserved virgin forest known as Apamprama.
