Group Condemns Government’s Directive To Reduce Nursing Training Admissions To 60%, Calling it Fraudulent.

A group calling itself Ghana Tertiary Movement (GTM) based in Kumasi has expressed their displeasure at Government’s Directive To Reduce Nursing Training Admissions To 60%, saying it is “fraudulent, depressive and unfair.”

The group also appealed to the President to reconsider his decision since it is going to squash the hopes of young people who were hopeful of furthering their education at the various Nurses Colleges of Education in the country this year.

Below is the full press release.

‘Government’s Directive To Reduce Nursing Training Admissions To 60% Is Fraudulent, Depressive And Unfair ‘
Our attention has been drawn to a directive from government on 19th January 2017 published in all media outlets to the effect of reducing admissions into Nursing Training Colleges to 60% in the next academic year.

The Ghana Tertiary Movement (GTM) strongly condemn the decision from government led by President Akuffo Addo in no uncertain terms.

Our impeccable informations from the Education ministry reveals that enrollment into Nursing training colleges increased from 8, 422 to 52,000, representing 84% of access into the nursing training colleges between 2013-2016. Hence our hopes are high that enrollments will increase further in the 2017/2018 academic year.

Therefore, the decision of government to reintroduce the abandoned ‘quota admission policy’, upon assumption of power is extremely depressive, fraudulent and unfair to tolerate the least.

We are by this release appealing to H.E, the President Nana Akuffo Addo to immediately halt the decision NOW without much delay.

Any further attempts to bring back the ‘quota system’ of admission unto Ghanaians will crash HOPE of all qualified appicants who desire to gain admission into the nursing training colleges to be TRAINED as medical professionals and should be condemned by all and sundry.

Failure to heed to our clarion call will open the Pandora’s box to clog the wheels peace and Justice of our beloved country Ghana!

Aluta Continua!!!
