International Women’s Day: AFRINYPE Ghana Calls for empowerment of women in rural setting

The African Network of Youth Policy Experts (AFRINYPE) Ghana is calling on the government to use the National Youth Policy and the Youth Bill to economically empower young women in rural areas who are mostly disadvantaged and are found in the agricultural labour force.

The Network is also urging the government to use the youth policy to address Sexual harassment, violence and discrimination against young women and girls which has captured headlines and public discourse in recent times.

In a statement released to celebrate women’s day 2018, the network observed that women in rural areas contribute immensely to the local economy through farming yet they face several challenges on almost every measure of development, because of deep seated gender inequalities and discrimination.

The statement wished all women well.
