The Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Maxwell Anthony Amoako has said that all things are being put in place at the office and the classrooms for the candidates for this year’s BECE to pass their exams but it is still expected of the students to work harder. He added that Obuasi has being topping the region and country as a whole in the BECE since 2003 and the worse performance from Obuasi is usually second best. Mr. Amoako revealed these when he spoke to Golden TV at Ghana’s 61st independence celebration observed at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
“Obuasi was first in 2016 but came second in 2017. We are doing our best and the teachers are also doing their best so its left with the students to put in much effort”, he said.
Obuasi saw the rise in its standard of education when later in 2002, the Assembly made it mandatory for all students and children below the age of 18 to remain indoors after 8pm or be with a guardian if outside. Students who refused to obey the law were arrested and their parents or guardians paid for their release. The law seems to have paid off when the Municipal Assembly topped in the BECE the following year. Obuasi has since remained a force to reckon with when it comes to basic school education in Ghana. State Television, GTV, even did a documentary about Obuasi’s success in the BECE.
