MAKE PRODUCTIVE USE OF DISABILITY FUND- OBUASI EAST MCE TELLS PWDS

The Chief Executive of the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly Honorable Faustina Amissah has admonished beneficiaries of the Disability fund to make productive use of the items given to them from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

Speaking to some persons living with disability in Obuasi East,  the MCE said the objective of the fund is to empower them economically and improve their livelihoods.

Currently, three percent of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) released quarterly to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) is set aside for the welfare of PWDs.

The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly in their 2nd disbursement of the year, the MCE on behalf of the Assembly donated items such as fufu pounding machine, hairdryer, deep freezers, soft drinks and ice chest,cocoa spraying machine,sewing machines, etc  to 27 PWDs. Eight of them were given educational support whiles one person was given medical support, bringing the number to 36 beneficiaries.

Hon. Amissah indicated that the Assembly has formed a monitoring team to monitor how the items are being utilized by the beneficiaries.

” We want the objectives of the disability fund to be realized hence we have a monitoring team both at the district and regional levels to visit the beneficiaries and ascertain how they use the items. We always admonish them not to sell the items but to use them for their intended purpose”.

 Fuseini Anyoasi chairman of the  Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled in Obuasi East commended Government for the consistency in disbursing the disability fund saying the fund has supported his members to make livelihoods for themselves and their families.
