Obuasi East MP, DCE Commission Cassava Processing Factory, Library and Other Major Projects

A Cassava Processing factory which seeks to refine raw cassava into finished products, has been çommissioned at Mampamhwe in the Obuasi East district of the Ashanti Region.

The facility, which is expected to produce gari and other products was financed from the Assembly’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund- Responsiveness Factor Grant ( DACF-RFG).

The Obuasi East Mp Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom and the District Chief Executive Hon. Faustina Amissah also commissioned a community library at Lowcost, 3-unit classroom block at Brahabebome and a 4-unit classroom block at St. Joseph School, Wawase, at separate ceremonies.

The cassava processing factory according to the Member of Parliament of the Obuasi East constituency Dr. Patrick Boakye who spoke at a ceremony to commission the project said the cassava processing factory would not only create more jobs for the people of Mampamhwe and also provide a ready market for farmers and dealwith post-harvest losses to boost the local economy.

He said they have liaised with an investor who will provide a ready market for the gari locally and also export some. ” We decided to bring the factory here because of the availability of raw materials but we have also collaborated effectively with a businesswoman who will provide ready markets for the gari from Mampamhwe”.

Education remains our topmost priority

In an interview with the media, the Chief Executive of the Obuasi East District Assembly said the entire district had no community library since it was carved out of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly in 2018.

She said the decision to put up the library which has an ICT center and a photocopier machine was based on the resolve of the Assembly and Member of Parliament to improve education in the District.

She said the Assembly has made conscious efforts to improve education by bridging infrastructural gap in schools in the district and also provide  educational facilities that will improve teaching and learning 

Hon. Faustina Amissah emphasized that the 3-unit KG block with washroom, staff common room, headteachers office and furniture at Brahabebome school will  replace the old block which was in a deplorable state. The 4-unit classroom block at St. Joseph R/C, Wawase according to the DCE will boost infrastructure in the school which wss recently affected by a heavy windstorm.

Bridging infrastructural gap

Meanwhile, the Obuasi East District Education Director Kwabena Owusu Nketia has commended the Member of Parliament and the Assembly for putting resources together to build the library and the school projects. 

He averred that the school projects in particular will contribute to bridging the infrastructural gaps in schools within the districts.

“Much of our challenges for us as a directorate is about infrastructural. We are parricularly excited that the Assembly and the Mp are not resting on their oars but are working assiduously to improve the situation. We are really grateful for their support”, he said.
