Obuasi East MP Registers Over 1000 Children Onto NHIS

Over one thousand children in the Obuasi East District in the Ashanti Region are to be registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme for free.

The Member of Parliament for the area Honorable Patrick Boakye-Yiadom paid for the registration as part of his resolve to deliver quality health care to the people in his Constituency.

The gesture by the MP was in sync with the ” Project 1000 kids” introduced by the National Health Insurance Scheme in September this year. The project is intended to encourage more kids to register onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.

At a ceremony to kick-start the process, Dr. Boakye Yiadom said registering school children onto the scheme will enable them have access to healthcare especially during emergency situations.

” We are doing this to have more of the children captured under the scheme who can have access to quality healthcare, to prevent absenteeism in schools”

He said 10  schools within the Constituency has been targeted to benefit from the free registering which will see more than 1000 children benefiting.

This will come as a relief to parents who find it difficult registering their children onto the NHIS.

Kwabena Kyeremanteng, the District Manager of the NHIS said the “Project 1000 kids” seeks to employ support and grant from corporate institutions and interested individuals to register the said category for free.

He again hinted that the National Health Insurance Scheme is committed to acheiving the United Nation’s Universal Health coverage by 2030 hence is resolved to enrol more of the people onto the scheme.

He lauded Dr. Boakye for accepting to freely enrol the children onto the the scheme. He called on individuals and institutions to also come on board to make the project successful.

Madam Delphine Gborgblorvor, the Obuasi East District Health Director on her part called for support for the project. She entreated more people to register onto the scheme to improve access to healthcare.

The pupils at Independence JHS ‘A’ and ‘B’ who were beneficiaries of the free NHIS registration on the first day were full of excitement. They thanked the Member of Parliament for the gesture saying it will go a long way to ensure easy access to healthcare.
