Obuasi Fire Tender Back in Service After Successful Fundraising Effort

The Obuasi Fire Tender is finally back in operation after months of being out of service, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Adansi Media Coalition for Development and the overwhelming support from individuals and organizations. The coalition has successfully raised GHC80,000, allowing for a part-payment towards the purchase of a new engine for the fire tender and other mechanical works.

The engine was acquired and installed at the Regional Headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service, officially restoring the fire tender to working condition. The vehicle, which had been non-functional since September 2024, returned to Obuasi on Tuesday, 11th March 2025, ready to resume its critical role in protecting lives and property.

Official Handover and Appreciation

At the official handing-over ceremony, the Obuasi Municipal Fire Commander, DO2 Rita Agboli, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the media and residents for their immense support in securing the new engine. She emphasized that the success of this initiative highlights the power of collective action and the importance of community involvement in ensuring public safety.

“We are deeply grateful to every individual and organization that contributed to this cause. The return of the fire tender means that we can now respond more effectively to emergencies in Obuasi and its surrounding areas,” DO2 Agboli stated.

The fire tender serves the Obuasi West Municipality, Obuasi East Municipality, and the Akrofuom District, making its restoration a significant achievement for the entire region.

Continued Support Needed

The convener of the Adansi Media Coalition for Development, Robert Anokye Gyamfi, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made but emphasized the need for further support to fully settle the remaining cost of the repairs.

“We are happy that the fire tender is back on the road, but we still have an outstanding balance to pay for the engine. We urge all well-meaning individuals, businesses, and institutions to continue supporting this cause so we can completely offset the cost,” he said.

With fire outbreaks continuing to pose a threat, having a fully operational fire service is a crucial step in safeguarding lives and property.
