Obuasi Floods: 23 year-old auto-mechanic found dead on Wednesday

A 23 year-old auto-mechanic is alleged to have been killed by floods as a result of Tuesday’s rainstorm in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, reported earlier by The Probe.

The deceased, Kwabena Richmond, who works at an automobile shop at Konka, a suburb of Obuasi, was found dead in the Nyam River in Obuasi.

According to Time FM’s Akwasi Ampofo [Aboboyaa], on Tuesday night, Richmond, in the company of other colleagues, was said to have abused tramadol after work around 7pm, when the rain had already started.

“His friends said when they were going home, one of his sandals got lost in the running water. Because the rain was heavy, they urged him to leave it in it, but he ignored them, and went ahead to try to recover it from the running water.

“So, they left him behind to escape the storm. And they did not hear of him again until around 3:55pm today when news broke out that he’s been found dead in the Nyam River,” Ampofo indicated.

Richmond is believed to have drowned in the floods, through the Hweaseamo River to the Nyam River.
