Obuasi Municipal Assembly Exceeds IGF Revenue Target

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has exceeded its projected internally generated fund (IGF) revenue for the year 2022. Hon Elijah Adansi-Bonah, the Chief Executive for the Assembly, attributed this feat to the proactiveness of the IGF technical committee, which he heads. According to him, the committee has managed to close loopholes hampering the efficient collection of revenue.

Thanks to the committee’s efforts to close loopholes hampering the efficient collection of revenue, the Assembly was able to collect GH 5,642,060.53, surpassing its target of GH 5,050,086.00. Hon. Adansi-Bonah also lauded the collaboration with AngloGold Ashanti, which enabled the Assembly to issue business operating permits to the mining company’s subcontractors, contributing to the surge in IGF revenue.

With these achievements, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly is now setting its sights on supporting community self-help projects in the Municipality. The MCE highlighted the importance of such projects in accelerating grassroots development and complementing the Assembly’s efforts in ensuring equal distribution of infrastructural projects.

Through a self-help approach, community members identify a need and mobilize resources to start a project, with the Local Assembly providing technical advice, equipment, and other support. This approach has the potential to empower communities and foster a sense of ownership and pride in local development.

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly’s success in exceeding its revenue target demonstrates its commitment to efficient governance and effective resource management. With plans to initiate new projects in 2023 under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program, the Assembly is poised to continue driving development and progress in the Municipality.
