The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has accused Obuasi Must Live Coalition for not being fair to his office by listening to the side of the AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi mine in their campaign to revive the economy of Obuasi.
Speaking on Obuasi based Shaft FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday; the First gentlemen of the Obuasi Municipality suggested the Coalition should have met him earlier to discuss this issue of AGA being shut down and the security concerns surrounding it.
“There’s no need trying to blame leadership just because you listened to one side to make your point.”
“This campaign should’ve started when AGA started retrenching over 4,000 workers which has gone a long way to affect the Municipality”, he stressed.
AGA doesn’t do the OMA a favour.
When asked by the show host, Akwesi Agudey of the immense revenue the Assembly gets from the mine, which is not as it were when the mine was active, Mr. Ofori Agyemang Boadi, had this to say;
“AGA doesn’t do Obuasi Municipal Assembly a favour by paying property rate or other dues, it’s a requirement by law; everything they do is an obligation; the fact that you are sick doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take our property rate from you”. He further explained.
The Municipal Security Council Chairman asked members off the Obuasi Must Live Coalition to come to his office for Dialogue.
