Pay us compensation or face our wrath – Ex staff to AngloGold Ashanti

Some 4000 former workers of mining giant Aglogold Ashanti’s Obuasi mine has asked the company to pay compensation due them by the end of this month or face their wrath.

The workers who were laid off between 2013 and 2014 say several attempts to have the company fulfill its obligation to them have proven futile.

The spokesperson for the aggrieved former workers Alex Frimpong tells Starr News that the members will embark on series of demonstrations to pile pressure on the company if the 10-day ultimatum elapses without any concrete action.

“Until the end of this month if they don’t give us our money we will stage a very powerful demonstration. We don’t have time to go to court where it can travel up to ten years before the matter is ruled over. When they laid us off they did not tell us to go to court to collect our termination letters. They gave us the letters at the HR department so we want to collect the money from them direct and we don’t have time to go to court.”
