Over 700 books were donated to the Obuasi Library Complex by the Placenta Leadership Foundation last Friday. The books which were gathered through the Drop-A-Book campaign by Placenta, will help to stock the library which has been opened with most of its shelves empty.
The donation came a day before Placenta’s Youth Revolution Conference and few hours before the Young Achievers Dialogue which took place at the Cofkans Hotel.
The Obuasi Library complex was built by the immediate past Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Hon. Edward Ennin in 2012 but it was opened to the public last year, just few months to the country’s general elections.
Many groups in Obuasi have over the few months since the opening of the library made efforts to donate books to help young readers who attends the library to get books to read. And this initiative by Placenta is to foster that move.
Presenting the books to the Librarian, the Patron of Placenta, Mr. Francis Owusu Mensah promised to help the library not only with the books section but also the ICT department.
They took the opportunity to officially launch the ‘Drop-A-Book Campaign’ which has come to stay. People can now donate books to the cause anytime throughout the year at the Obuasi Post Office.
