Residents of Bediem Abundant Grace Down Appeal to New MCE for Urgent Help Over Flooding Crisis

Residents of Bediem Abundant Grace Down, a community near the Abundant Grace School in Obuasi, are making a passionate appeal to the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi West, Hon. Faustylove Appiah Kannin, to intervene in the worsening flooding situation in their area.

The residents say they have endured years of flooding due to poor drainage infrastructure, and previous appeals for help yielded no meaningful results. They are now placing their hopes in the new MCE, calling on her administration to prioritize their plight.

According to Mr. Kofi Badu, a long-time resident and flood victim, all the drainage systems in the area have been channeled into a single gutter near the school, which overflows during heavy rains.

“Last year, I almost lost my life. I had to pay all my medical bills from my own pocket. The former MCE, Hon. Elijah Adansi Bonah, never visited or showed concern. We felt neglected,” he said.

Another resident, Madam Faustina, also shared her concerns, particularly about how the flooding affects families with young children.

“There is a newborn baby in the house, and anytime it starts raining, I get scared and confused. This place is not safe. Because of the flooding, we can’t buy normal household items like fridges or mattresses — everything gets destroyed. We can’t even paint our house.”

The residents say they are hopeful that Hon. Faustylove Appiah Kannin will bring a fresh approach and provide real solutions.

“We believe in her leadership and the current administration. That’s why we’re calling on her to help us before things get worse,” another resident added.

They are pleading with the new MCE to visit the community, assess the situation firsthand, and commit to constructing proper drainage systems to prevent further destruction during the rainy season.
