The Obuasi East Director of Education, Mrs. Leticia Obeng has revealed that the Obuasi Education directorates are embarking on aggressive monitoring to make sure that teachers and students who are currently back to school adhere to safety protocols to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus. She disclosed this when AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, donated 8 motorcycles to the eight circuit supervisors in the Obuasi East and Obuasi Municipal education directorates.
Last year, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine launched a three-year Social Management Plan which among other areas focuses prominently on education with the objective of contributing to increasing pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination in Obuasi from 81 to 90% by the year 2021. The donation of the motorcycles is in line with this Plan.

The Obuasi East Education Boss expressed her joy at the donation and indicated that the Mine has been supporting her outfit for some time now.
“We received close to 1000 furniture from the Mine a few weeks ago”, she revealed.
Final year students of junior and senior high schools in the nation were asked to resume on 29th June, 2020 in order to prepare for their final examinations. Schools in Obuasi started classes for their final year students this week and will last for 11 weeks. Schools have been provided with veronica buckets and teachers and students have also received face masks.
