The headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, has filed a defamation lawsuit against investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni and Multimedia Group Limited.
According to court documents reported by Modern Ghana, Mr Abdulai is seeking GH¢2 million in damages over publications he alleges were false, malicious and damaging to his reputation.
The case concerns reports and broadcasts carried on Multimedia platforms, including Joy FM, JoyNews, Joy TV, Adom FM and MyJoyOnline. The publications reportedly discussed allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students at Obuasi SHTS.
Mr Abdulai is also asking the court to declare the statements defamatory and issue an injunction preventing the defendants from repeating similar claims. He further seeks general damages and legal costs.
The lawsuit follows an investigation by Manasseh Azure titled “Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.” The investigation prompted administrative action against Mr Abdulai, including his interdiction by the Ghana Education Service and a police investigation.
Manasseh Azure confirmed the lawsuit during an interview on Joy FM, saying his lawyers would handle the matter. Multimedia Group Limited had not publicly responded at the time of publication.
