Akrofuom District Celebrates 5 Years of Growth and Development

As the Akrofuom district marks its fifth anniversary this year, the district chief executive, Hon. Maurice Jonas Woode, has outlined a series of activities to commemorate the occasion. These activities include games and other festivities, as well as reflecting on the district’s remarkable progress over the past five years.

Hon. Woode revealed that the district generated GHc72,000 in revenue in its first year in 2018, but has since been able to increase this amount to over GHc900,000 in 2022. He noted that the district has faced numerous challenges along the way, but these have not deterred the hard work and dedication of those working towards its development.

Education has been a key priority for the district, with 12 schools constructed and completed since its inception. Eighteen (18) schools have also benefited from the school feeding program. Over 100 students in the district have also received government scholarships, ensuring that they have the necessary support to succeed academically.

The district has also taken steps to improve agriculture and support local farmers. In 2022, over 65,000 palm trees were distributed, while in 2021, 4,000 coconut seedlings were given to farmers in the district to improve coconut production.

Hon. Woode and the Akrofuom District Assembly have also been committed to supporting people with disabilities in the district. In 2021, items such as deep freezers, knitting machines, and industrial sewing machines were presented to 18 persons with disabilities in the district, at a cost of over GHc17,000. This year, 15 more persons with disabilities have received items such as fufu pounding machines, hair dryers, and wheelchairs, amounting to GHc50,000, sourced from the Assembly’s share of the disability fund.

Furthermore, the district has taken steps to improve sanitation, commissioning a 20-seater water closet toilet facility with a shower to replace a 90-year-old toilet structure in Akrofuom Ward 3, at a cost of GHc323,026, funded by the Minerals Development Fund.

Hon. Woode, who was reappointed as DCE in October 2021, pledged to continue working towards the development of the district.
