AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and innovation following the successful hosting of its maiden STEM Bootcamp in Obuasi.
A new wave of creativity and technological curiosity came to life at the grand finale, where 36 pupils from eight basic school STEM clubs across the Obuasi East and Obuasi Municipalities showcased projects developed during an intensive five-day training programme. The event drew traditional leaders, education stakeholders, parents, and community members, all gathered to celebrate the ingenuity and potential of the young participants.
The bootcamp marks a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing investment in education, particularly in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics within the region. Central to this effort is the Robotics Training Centre, built any the Obuasi Mine and commissioned on 11th July 2025, which continues to serve as a hub for practical learning and innovation. As the first facility of its kind in the Ashanti Region, the centre is already making meaningful impact.

Guided by AngloGold Ashanti’s 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan, the bootcamp provided hands-on training for students from Primary 4 to JHS 2. Participants were introduced to a wide range of skills, including computational thinking, coding fundamentals, electronics, mechanical engineering, 3D design, robotics, and creative problem-solving. The programme also strengthened their communication and presentation abilities, enabling them to confidently share their ideas.
Throughout the bootcamp, students demonstrated discipline, resilience, and a strong passion for learning. Their final projects reflected not only technical understanding but also a commitment to addressing real-world challenges within their communities.

Speaking at the event, the Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine Edmund Oduro Agyei emphasized its purpose of “Empowering People and Advancing Societies,” noting that equipping young people with relevant skills in innovation and technology is essential to building a sustainable future for Obuasi and beyond. He highlighted the growing influence of technology across sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and communication, stressing the importance of preparing the next generation to lead in an increasingly digital world.
He encouraged participants to remain curious, pursue their ambitions, and take advantage of emerging opportunities in STEM fields, assuring them of continued support through future initiatives and partnerships.
The success of the programme was made possible through collaboration with key stakeholders, including the DreamOval Foundation and the Ghana Education Service, alongside dedicated STEM coordinators, Obuasi Secondary Technical School, parents, and members of the community.

The Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, George Alfred Koomson, commended AngloGold Ashanti for its dedication towards advancing STEM education and nurturing young innovators in Obuasi. He praised the company’s sustained investment in youth development, describing the STEM Bootcamp as a timely and impactful initiative that is equipping students with critical skills in creativity, problem-solving, and technology.
AngloGold Ashanti has called for sustained stakeholder support to expand STEM initiatives across the region, noting that the Robotics Training Centre holds the potential to drive innovation not only in Obuasi but across Ghana.
As the inaugural bootcamp concludes, one message resonates clearly: the foundation for a new generation of innovators in Obuasi has been laid, and the future is full of promise.
