Bawa-Rock Limited, a gold trading and mining company based in Obuasi, has provided financial assistance to poultry farmers in the Greater Accra Region whose businesses were severely affected by the June 29, 2026 floods in the capital.
The relief package, valued at GH¢700,000, was presented to eight affected farmers at Roman Ridge in Accra.
According to the company, the initiative forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aimed at supporting individuals and businesses affected by unforeseen challenges.
Presenting the support on behalf of Bawa-Rock Limited, the company’s Corporate and Social Responsibility Manager Mr. Eric Addae Boateng, reaffirmed its commitment to CSR and to helping affected farmers rebuild and revive their businesses.
He explained that the financial assistance was calculated to help offset losses suffered by the farmers, including the loss of birds, working capital, farm infrastructure, and other valuables.
Mr. Addae Boateng added that, Bawa-Rock Limited would continue to pursue initiatives that support business owners and help them overcome challenges, including the impact of natural disasters.
Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Association of Poultry Farmers, Mr. Titus Frederick Lutterodt, commended Bawa-Rock Limited for its sustained support and generosity towards the affected farmers.
He said the intervention had renewed hope among poultry farmers who had suffered significant losses as a result of the floods.
“Your kindness came at a moment when many of us [poultry farmers] have lost not only the birds and the farm structures but also our means of livelihood and hope for the future.
“The compensation has gone a long way in helping us begin the process of recovering our buildings and farms,” Mr. Lutterodt said.
For his part, Mr. Shak Al-Mohammed of Shak Farms said he was “overwhelmed” by Bawa-Rock Limited’s decision to support the farmers at a time when many were experiencing despair and uncertainty.
He expressed the farmers’ appreciation to the company, noting that without the assistance, their difficulties would have intensified and restarting their businesses would have been extremely challenging.
Madam Abena Kyei, who has been involved in poultry and piggery farming since 1995, also recounted her repeated experiences with flooding disasters without receiving external assistance.
She said the June floods destroyed tens of thousands of her birds, leaving her discouraged and considering abandoning the business.
“I have my partners around here; I was so much discouraged, and we seriously gave up. My joy started arousing when I heard of Bawa-Rock,” she said.
Before this, the company also supported over 300 traders whose their businesses were severely affected by the 5 September, Obuasi Town Hall Fire worth Ghc1.5 million. Including industrial sewing machines as the Start-Up kits to support their transition.
