“Expect Me in the Next elections But in what capacity, I don’t Know” – Former Ashanti Regional MInister, John Ackon.

The former Ashanti regional Minister, John Alexander Kobina Ackon, has assured Ghanaians of his participation in the 2020 elections but whether he will be contesting as a member of Parliament, regional or a national position in the National Democratic Congress is yet to be decided. Joining the 2020 campaign team of his party without holding a key position could also be a possibility, Obuasitoday.com gathered. The former Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi was speaking to Golden TV on the 61st Independence Anniversary celebration held at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.

John Ackon started his political career by contesting for the Obuasi seat in the 2008 elections which he lost to Edward Ennin of the NPP but since President John Atta Mills of the NDC won the National elections, he was later appointed as the Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi.

In 2012, Obuasi was divided into two constituencies and he contested against Kwaku Kwarteng of the NPP for the Obuasi West slot and lost for the second time. He was afterwards appointed as Deputy Minister for the newly created Chieftaincy ministry when President John Mahama won the 2012 elections. He was later sent to the Gender and Social Welfare Ministry as deputy before he was finally brought to the Ashanti region as the substantive minister for the region. He lost for the third time contesting for a seat in Parliament in the 2016 elections.

“If you say should you expect me in the next coming election, I (will) say yes but in what capacity, I don’t know. …in terms of participation, I will say yes”, he said.

He also stressed that NDC coming back to power in 2020 will be good for Ghana since it will buttress the fact that if you don’t perform, you will be voted out.
